Blog Questions for Week 3

IP is an Internet protocol address this acts as a unique identifier which is then used to identify and to communicate with other stations on the computer network.

The reason why IP addresses are due to run out is because of the sortage of addresses as more and more users are joining every day which limits the amount of IP address that are available to new users. This has lead to IP addresses running out on IPv4

Another main cause of the problem is overload beacuse of double requests that are made my the user this tends to stall the server, another cause of the problem has been Vista which has also put load on DNS servers which will overtax the system causing it probally to crash and process requests slowly

DNS has many functions such as

  answering requests

  contacting other DNS


• 
  
  pass on requests to other servers


• 
  
  display an error message

having excessive IP addresses will lead DNS not functioning propally leading to it running out

To solve the problem IPv6 could be introduced to act as a back up which can work along side IPv4 they can work accordingly to prevent the run out.

a) Describe how the www.Yahoo.com search engine works and give one advantage and one disadvantage in this method of searching?

Yahoo search engine uses the method of classifying information under subject headings which are specific for the user this makes it an Index Based search engines for example:

• Weather
• Sport
• Games
• TV.........etc

Advantages of using Yahoo.com is its consistant as it has a graphical user interface which never changes as everything is always catagorized, sub-headings can be used to guide the user through the information they are looking for.

Disadvantage of using Yahoo.com is the headings and sub heading is only from one point of view and may have cultural differences such as interpretatioin of what is seen on the screen by different ethnical users.

b) Describe how the www.Google.com search engine works and give one advantage and one disadvantage in this method of searching?

Google.com is an example of a crawler- based search engine as it crawls it way around the web to display the listings automatically which have been requested by the user.

Advantages of using Google as a method of searching is you are given a relevance indicator which allows you to see how accurate the results of your search was it also gives you a rating on the pages which have found matching your results

Disadvantage of using Google is its less useful if you want a broad overview as it needs to understand your syntax inorder to display the correct results.

c) In your view explain which search engine you prefer to use when searching the web and justify why you have this preference?

Personally the web search engine i prefer to use is Google.com the reason being is i believe its simple and not that complecated as it gives you what you want to search for it has a much more eaiser feel to it as you are not crowded by unwanted items of data.

On the other hand i believe that Yahoo.com is more complecated as you surrounded by unlimited options which puts me off it contains items you dont really want to see after results of searches are displayed such as the articles which are displayed. Overall it has a much more crowded feel to it this is the reason why i prefer Google over Yahoo.

Give one similarity and one difference between a Blog and a paper Diary?

There are many similarities and differences between a Blog and a paper diary, the following are examples.

For example one difference is that a Blog is an electronic diary where as a diary is paper based which can also be lost which suggests that its not secure as a Blog, another difference is With Blogs you can make links to other web pages or HTML pages however this cannot be done with a paper based diary.
Similarities between a Blog and a paper based diary is you can note down your thoughts and it’s a way of expressing your self.
